This can render it useless in the event of an emergency. To prevent this, fire extinguishers should be serviced monthly and yearly to ensure proper functioning.
- A fire extinguisher requires sufficient levels of pressure and extinguishing agent to combat fires effectively. A fire extinguisher without sufficient charge is a disaster waiting to happen. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requires that fire extinguishers be inspected annually by a professional in charge of the recharging process.
